TABAO AUDO 安藤忠雄 - Architecture
Research on Japanese Design
Tabao Audo, a Japanese Architect who is a legend in Architecture worlds. For how he was self-taught to become an Architect and all of his amazing works in this industry.
This Japanese Master always uses concrete as the main materials of his work, geometrical surfaces are presented without fancy appearances, LIGHT, WIND, and WATER are used as an element which helps his work blend in with nature. Many of his work contains a sense of “Zen”, while the users are inside the structure, what they can receive are not only a viewing experience but also the experience of emotions and psychological changes.
ABOUT LIGHT, CHURCH OF LIGHT
The church of light is located at Osaka, Japan. The concept is to use light to divide space, as you can see while the light goes through the cross-shaped wall and the rays of the sun are cutting through the interior area. Also, from the top view of the church's layout, you can see a number 7 is presented, which also a symbol of many biblical events.
ABOUT WIND, KAZENO CHURCH
Kazeno Church, also known as The Church Of Wind. Located at Kobe City, Japan. The wind is the main element of this work, between the chapel and the entrance there has a tunnel which all covered by glass, with only two opens at the front and the end made it shaped like a pipe and create special sound while the winds pass through. Also, due to the concrete material, echo is really obvious inside of the chapel.
Church on the Water is also known as Chapel on the Water is a privately owned wedding chapel located at Hokkaido. The main feature of its work must be the cross upon the pond, the reflection of water longer the cross which makes it be more identical. Another feature I like to mentions is that huge sliding door, while the door is slide opened, the interior of the chapel will be blend in with the exterior space, which is the concept of Audo many works.
REFLECTION
I used to admire Architects like Tabao Audo or Zaha Hadid. Indeed, they both made a lot of huge effort and creation into the industry, but as they get more and more famous, they forget what Architecture truly mean to humans. As you can see, many of their works are always contain the same or similar elements, materials, and concepts. They have their own "language" and applying it in their different work around the world. Less thinking, less research, less cares about the needs of that area of people, lost the definition of good design to all mankind.
