The Community Housing Movement

The Community Housing Movement, CHM, is a social movement launched by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, HKCSS. Its objective is to provide a short-term relief for people/ families that are having urgent housing needs through the provision of transitional accommodation and support services. The Project is formally launched and more than 500 units of transitional social housing have been provided.

You are invited to join a competition that has launched by HKCSS under the Community Housing Movement to design a co-living space for the project. The theme of this competition is :

“We shape the community and the community shapes us.”

You need to design a space with liveability and sustainability to let the households get to build a strong network of mutual/ community support and increases their living quality.

I remember I’ve read an article, on how the design of public spaces shapes our behaviour as an ideal citizen. Manipulate our daily life quietly, these design have became the tools for the city planner to execute their planned society. Differently, community is created by you and I, the individuals. And combined, melted into a great picture, which have it unique character, strength and emotion accordance to the culture behind. But, as we wish we can shape our community, in the same time aren’t we are shapes by the current? Limited by the “frame” that have been rooted in our community?
